November 4, 2008 YES WE DID! I just got home from a parade - this parade was made up of a rainbow of people. We danced together and sang along to Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" (if you want to see this delightfully inspiring footage go to youtube and type in "Obama Dance Party Seattle") God, so beautiful. I have been shedding proud tears all night long. For the first time in a very, very long time, I can say I am very proud to be an American. Change really is coming. Finally. This is the best thing that could have happened for America, and the world. YES! November 5, 2008 added note and testimony to the change that lies ahead - in Seattle 3,500+ people peacefully gathered and celebrated in the streets of my neighborhood (capitol hill). My body is sore today from all the high fives and hugs I shared with strangers. I heard on the news today that there were NO arrests and when the police started to suggest people disperse around 2am, the citizens of Seattle grabbed garbage bags and brooms and began to clean up the mess that the celebration left behind. The police thanked them over megaphones. Does it get any better than that? Let's maintain this energy!
i had a reawakening tonight. substantial enough to edit what i say here, personal enough to divulge no more than this. i'm still physically shaking thoughts from my body, still arranging the flowers behind my ear. and as always, blissful days and nights to anyone on the other side of this
a friend of mine passed away last july, but before his untimely death he worked on a documentary called, "Why Should the Devil Have All the Good Music" and it's available on DVD now. it's about the subculture of the christian rock industry. i am in fact what they call, "secular" and so were those who made this film. i absolutely can not write a review that will do the film appropriate justice. i'll just say that it's a thought-provoking, bias free, piece of work that appeals to people like me--who know NOTHING about christian rock, as well as those who love and embrace it. If you are interested, please find reviews on the internet. The documentary did win the audience choice award at the Chicago Underground Film Festival. I wouldn't push the film if i didn't think it was worthy of the push. .
i want to add--to those of you reading that aren't american (and even those from america i suppose)....that i do not know one solitary person in my circle, which is quite large, that supports, understands or is proud of what is happening in this country. i'm not grandstanding, i just want to do my part and let one little pocket of the world know that we really aren't all bad here. most of us don't get it and are absolutely horrified.
June 13, 2008 i can finally say that i've got a little hope about the future of this country. fingers crossed. things just have to turn around.
August 27, 2008 it's happening! it's REALLY happening! all the blood's run out of my crossed fingers, yet, they'll remain crossed until the first tuesday in november. |
