Married to a wonderful woman for 26 years with two amazing, delightful daughters. Avid reader with special affection for Jane Austen, Lois McMasters Bujold, Tony Hillerman, Donna Leon, Patrick O’Brien, Jane Roberts and J.K. Rowling with Lawrence Block's "Burglars" getting a honorable mention. Love movies of all ages with particular favorites being "Casablanca" (1942), "Cinema Paradiso" (1988), "Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain" (2001), "Gone with the Wind" (1939), "Il Postino" (1994), "Saving Private Ryan" (1998), "Shakespeare in Love" (1998), "The Big Sleep" (1946), "The Wizard of Oz" (1939) and "To Kill a Mockingbird" (1962); more recent treasures include "No Country for Old Men", "Gone Baby Gone", "Stranger Than Fiction", "Children of Men", "Spirited Away", "Lives of Others" and "The Visitor". TV offerings of "Angels in America" (2003), "Band of Brothers" (2001) and "Wit" (2001) were wonderful. Enjoy most music with personal favorite genres being 60's rock (Beatles, Cream, Hendrix, &c.) and classical (Mozart, Bach, Gershwin, &c.) although I'm currently listening to a lot of older country (e.g. Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash & Patsie Cline). Recently discovered Beethoven 5th & 7th by Gustavo Dudamel and the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela (electric). Love "Raising Sand" by Alison Krauss and Robert Plant; hope they release an encore. Collector of items that interest me (Navajo rugs, Uncle Scrooge comic books, cream pitchers, first editions, Indian pottery, political campaign buttons, newspaper headlines, &c.) and especially friends. Love to travel -- Santorini, Siena and London stand out. Politically I'm an outspoken liberal: Bush's presidency was a fiasco. I enthusiastically supported Barack Obama for President and celebrate his presidency. |
