Ataturk's words to the mothers in New Zealand and Australia after the Gallipoli battles in 1918 :

Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives (at Gallipoli battles).. You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side here in this country of ours.. You the mothers who sent their sons from far away countries wipe away your tears. Your sons are now living in our bosom and are in peace. Having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well.

The design magazine Wallpaper chose Istanbul for being the " best city ".

The text is taken from the related edition of this magazine :

Best city
Istanbul
Having carved out a niche as an art city, with its new modern art gallery and Sakip Sabanci Museum, IstanbulӮs latest incarnation is as a shopping paradise and chic nightspot. A host of new stores and bars have opened in Nisantasi, not to mention design specialist Addresistanbul. But perhaps most impressive has been the emergence of a daring design scene. Derin Design and Gaia & Gino are already stars, while Autoban points to IstanbulӮs exciting design future. The city is rapidly turning into an elegant party capital.

( Best city Nominees were : Beijing, Istanbul, New York, Stcokholm and Vienna )

Best new restaurant
M§īzede Changa, Istanbul
Six years after opening the ever-popular Changa, restaurateurs Tarik Bayazit and Savas Ertunc have opened an equally slick sequel, M§īzede Changa. Architect Aysen Savas dreamt up the ”®glass cube”Æ that houses the restaurant; the 1960s- and 1970s-inspired interiors were designed by the award-winning Autoban design team; and chef Peter Gordon has given traditional Turkish fare a modern twist.

I lost my grandfather. He would call me " you are my piece of moon " . That is a bad translation to english but in turkish it sounds very loving. I cannot smile anymore like on the photo.

Today ( 23.04 ) is a national holiday in Turkey. We are celebrating the foundation of our parliament in 1920. Our greatest leader, Ataturk, who started the war of liberation against those who invaded our country after the 1st world war, and who at the end founded the Turkish Republic and freed the Turks from foreign sovereignity, declared this day to the world`s children and from then on 23th April will be celbrated as " Children`s Festival ". Ataturk is the first and only leader who annunced a day to be the children`s day as he saw the children as the future of our world. He wanted the children from all countries to come together on this day and be friends so that no wars will take place in the future. Unfortunately, his utopia did not come true and it seems to me that it never will , as there always be countries who will try to emperialize the others and benefit from others for money in the name of religion or liberty. But still, Turkey welcomes the children of the world every April and today, children from each country present the Turkish children their love and the feelings for the future peace, they make their national dances.

And we sing today this song :

" Leave us, to the children, a world
it should be without the tears,
Come children with your dances
Come children hand in hands "

I subscribed in Flork while i was searching for a mine of Info about Rachid Taha and wasnt expecting to chat with people from all around the world. And i wasnt expecting that the pic would attract so many people. The photo was taken on Bozcaada, an island on the west coast of Turkey, which is not far away from the ancient city Troja, which is again quite popular nowadays after the film Troja with Brad Pitt and the German beauty, playing Helena from which my name origines !
Thank you very much for your compliments about the colour of the water and me.
