Helin's upcoming travel : Cuba from 29.04 until 07.05. Celebrating the Labour's Day on 01.05 at the Revolotion Plaza in Havana :)
Searching for quality clubs, restaurants and bars in Europe where I can make bellydance shows. If you know any places near you, I`d be pleased if you could get the email and internet site for me.
When I have a boyfriend again, who doesnt have another girlfriend, the first thing I want to do is to go on holiday with him. Preferably to Cuba. Because I'm sick and tired of making my vacations alone and then seeing couples in love and feeling sorry for myself ! Like I burst out into tears on a marvellous island on Phuket.
----------------------------- Your messages about Nazim Hikmet make me delighted ! I am so much honoured by the quality of Florkers.
15.01 - celebrating Nazim Hikmet's , the great Turkish poet's 107th birthday, below please find one of his great works :
Living is no laughing matter: you must live with great seriousness like a squirrel, for example-- I mean without looking for something beyond and above living, I mean living must be your whole occupation. Living is no laughing matter: you must take it seriously, so much so and to such a degree that, for example, your hands tied behind your back, your back to the wall, or else in a laboratory in your white coat and safety glasses, you can die for people-- even for people whose faces you've never seen, even though you know living is the most real, the most beautiful thing. I mean, you must take living so seriously that even at seventy, for example, you'll plant olive trees-- and not for your children, either, but because although you fear death you don't believe it, because living, I mean, weighs heavier.
31.12 - I wish you all everything you wish for yourselves for the new year. May peace at last prevail on earth ! Through Flork I made many incredibly good friendship in the last 4 years. This is magical and I wish the same for 2009. Hugs and love to everyone who contributed.

Below, please find the english translation of one of my favourite poems, written by Atilla Ilhan - author, poet, scenarist, journalist, left-wing oriented great man, my big love, who passed away 3 years ago.
YOU ARE A MUST FOR ME
you are a must for me, you never know i keep your name in my mind as a nail your eyes getting more bigger as they get bigger you are a must for me, you never know i am heating inside of me with you
Trees are getting ready for autumn this city is that old Istanbul? clouds are torn aparts in darkness street lights are immediately flashing over sidewalks, the smell of rain you are a must for me, you are absent
to love is sometimes a rather disgraceful fear man gets tired all of a sudden in an evening captive, with living over straight razor sometime, breaks his hands, his passion takes out a few lives in his lifetime whichever door he knocks sometimes behind him, whistle of the naught silence of loneliness
a poor gramphon plays in Fatih from ancient times a Cuma* plays standing in the corner, i would listen non-stop i would bring an untouched sky to you weeks are crumbled in my hands what shall i do, what shall i hold on, where shall i go you are a must for me, you are absent
maybe you are blue dotted child in june Ah noone knows you, noone knows a ship leaks from your deserted eyes maybe you are taking an aeroplane in Yesilkoy wholly got wet, your hair shudder maybe you are blind, broken, in a hurry Bad winds are carrying away your hair
whenever i think of living a life maybe hard in this wolves table.. without a shame, though without getting our hands dirty whenever i think of living a life i start with your name, with saying Silence your secret seas are moving inside of me No, it wont happen in other ways you are a must for me, you never know...

Ataturk's words to the mothers in New Zealand and Australia after the Gallipoli battles in 1918 :
Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives (at Gallipoli battles).. You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side here in this country of ours.. You the mothers who sent their sons from far away countries wipe away your tears. Your sons are now living in our bosom and are in peace. Having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well.
08.03.2009 - celebrating International Women`s Day. With abiding faith in the vital importance of women in society, the founder of the Turkish Republic and the establisher of the revolutions, Atatürk launched many reforms to give women equal rights and opportunities. The new Civil Code, adopted in 1926, abolished polygamy and recognized the equal rights of women in divorce, custody, and inheritance. The entire educational system from the grade school to the university became coeducational.
Atatürk gave women the same opportunities as men, including full political rights. Turkey is one of the first countries in the European zone and the world , where women were given the right to elect and be elected and that was in 1930. ( Finland is the first European country where the women had this right , in 1906. This is followed by Denmark and Norway. French women obtained this right in 1944, whereas the Swiss women in 1972 ).
" "I am convinced that the exercise of social and political rights by women is necessary for mankind's happiness and pride. You can rest assured that Turkish women together with world`s women will work towards world peace and security." - Atatürk
" "Everything we see in the world is the creative work of women." - Atatürk

The design magazine Wallpaper chose Istanbul for being the " best city ".
The text is taken from the related edition of this magazine :
Best city Istanbul Having carved out a niche as an art city, with its new modern art gallery and Sakip Sabanci Museum, Istanbul¡¯s latest incarnation is as a shopping paradise and chic nightspot. A host of new stores and bars have opened in Nisantasi, not to mention design specialist Addresistanbul. But perhaps most impressive has been the emergence of a daring design scene. Derin Design and Gaia & Gino are already stars, while Autoban points to Istanbul¡¯s exciting design future. The city is rapidly turning into an elegant party capital.
( Best city Nominees were : Beijing, Istanbul, New York, Stcokholm and Vienna )
Best new restaurant M§îzede Changa, Istanbul Six years after opening the ever-popular Changa, restaurateurs Tarik Bayazit and Savas Ertunc have opened an equally slick sequel, M§îzede Changa. Architect Aysen Savas dreamt up the ¡®glass cube¡¯ that houses the restaurant; the 1960s- and 1970s-inspired interiors were designed by the award-winning Autoban design team; and chef Peter Gordon has given traditional Turkish fare a modern twist. www.changa-istanbul.com
( Best new restaurant nominees were : Canteen - London, Gilt - New York, Kirketon - Sydney, Kungsholmen - Stockholm, M§îzede Changa - Istanbul )

I lost my grandfather. He would call me " you are my piece of moon " . That is a bad translation to english but in turkish it sounds very loving. I cannot smile anymore like on the photo.
Today ( 23.04 ) is a national holiday in Turkey. We are celebrating the foundation of our parliament in 1920. Our greatest leader, Ataturk, who started the war of liberation against those who invaded our country after the 1st world war, and who at the end founded the Turkish Republic and freed the Turks from foreign sovereignity, declared this day to the world`s children and from then on 23th April has been celebrated as " Children`s Festival ". Ataturk is the first and only leader in the world history who announced a day to be the children`s day because he regarded the children as the future of our world. He wanted the children from all countries to come together on this day and be friends so that no wars will take place in the future. Unfortunately, his utopia has not come true yet and it seems to me that it never will , as there always be countries who will try to imperialize the others and benefit from others for money in the name of religion or liberty. But still, Turkey welcomes the children of the world every April and today, children from each country present the Turkish children their love and the feelings for the future peace, they make their national dances.
And we sing today this song :
" Leave us, to the children, a world it should be without the tears, Come children with your dances Come children hand in hands "
........................ I subscribed in Flork while i was searching for Info about Rachid Taha and wasnt expecting to chat with people from all around the world. And i wasnt expecting that the pic would attract so many people. The photo was taken on Bozcaada, an island on the west coast of Turkey, which is not far away from the ancient city Troja, which is again quite popular nowadays after the film Troja with Brad Pitt and the German beauty, playing Helena from which my name origines !
Turkey welcomes you! Go with the rhythm and enjoy Turkey! |
