After an unsuccessful foray into the world of so-called "higher education" (marked by a remarkably ill attendance record in Chemistry, a horrible Spanish teacher, and an honorable mention journalism award which I'm still not exactly sure how I won and actually have never laid eyes on), I am now working as an au pair in the semi-wilds of the Netherlands. Frantically trying to learn Dutch—and remembering how totally freaking cool it is to get the hang of a new language.

I'm afraid I'm not on Flork so often any more. But if you message me, I will very likely answer eventually.

I read everything, write anything, and collect dust gorillas in my closet. If you asked me what my favourite book is my head would probably explode.

Current reads:
Anthologies of short science fiction stories.

I listen to a WIDE variety of music, including but not limited to:
Gandalf Murphy and the Slambovian Circus of Dreams (clearly, the best band in the world), Joni Mitchell, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Miles Davis, Ray Charles, Cat Stevens, The Grateful Dead, CCR, the Cranberries, R.E.M., Radiohead, Meredith Brooks, Eve 6, Guster, Tally Hall, The Ramones, The Rolling Stones, Semisonic, Bob Marley, Led Zeppelin, Green Day, Blur, The White Stripes, They Might Be Giants, Nirvana, Alanis Morrisette, Modest Mouse, King Crimson, Die Ärzte, Tori Amos, Belle & Sebastian, Seth Bernard & Daisy May, Coldplay, Hanson (I don't give a crap what you think about that), The Chieftains, The Pogues, The Arcade Fire, Woody Guthrie and Arlo Guthrie, Bob Dylan, The Raconteurs, Mary Black, Mika, Nickel Creek, Paul Tegel, Tangled Roots, Weezer; some choral and classical and a lot of folk music (festival junkie).

I would rather be blind than deaf, because while reading is incredibly important to me staying alive, there is such a thing as audio books. But I can think of no way to experience music, except with my ears, and I really think I would not be ok without it.

Current music:
Daisy May, Bløf, the August Rush soundtrack, live Gandalf Murphy and the Slambovian Circus of Dreams bootlegs.

I love old movies - I wish black and white film would make a comeback.
Good movies, in no particular order: The Great Escape, Rocky, Good Night and Good Luck, Star Wars (originals only!), Die Fetten Jahre sind vorbei / The Edukators, Rebel Without A Cause, Gone With The Wind, The Breakfast Club, Shakespeare in Love, Harold and Maude, Seven Samurai, The Princess Bride, King Kong, Proof, Air Guitar Nation, anything by Monty Python, The Wizard of Oz, School of Rock, Amelie, Little Miss Sunshine, etc. etc.

I've watched Ice Age 2, Baby Einstein: Baby MacDonald, and Once Upon A Potty about eight times each week with the kids I'm taking care of.
Classics, all.

I try to be really open-minded about books, music, etc. If you recommend something, I'm basically willing to try it out. I have my particular tastes, but I try to recognize merit in everything
(except reality tv and cell phone ringtones)
