I'm a closet introvert (whatever that means). I try to be out there and social, but in reality I’d prefer to lock myself into a cupboard and let the world pass me by most of the time.
I write. When I'm not chasing my two daughters (or wife) around the house, not working and not sleeping, I write. Hopefully better sentences than the one above I can hear you all complain. I’ve written scripts for short films and even won a Best Screenwriter award for one of them. I’m currently hacking away at a three book fantasy opus aimed at young teenagers and silly adults.
But is all this writing making me an obscene amount of money? Unfortunately not, so I work as a Systems Architect – basically I design computer systems and solutions based on customer requirements in the supply chain visibility and environmental reporting space.
When it comes to music and books I’m all over the place, but for me idea is more important that execution. A great idea, poorly executed is after all a still a good idea. Crap is crap however much you polish it.
The specifics:
Music: I’m a bit all over the place.
I love Trip Hop like Elsiane, Frost, Massive Attack, Kate Havnevik, Björk, De-Phazz, Imogen Heap.
Singer Songwriters: Tori Amos, Hannah Fury, Sarah Slean, Emiliana Torrini, Natalie Walker, Sarah Blasko
Rock with a bit of goth flavour: Sirenia, Within Temptation, Streams of Passion, Epica.
And stacks of others: Dead Can Dance, Lisa Gerrard, Skinny Puppy, Legendary Pink Dots, Muse, Philip Glass, Danny Elfman, Kissing the Pink, Ambeon, Smashing Pumpkins, JS Bach the list goes on and on.
Phew…music took it all out of me. Shorter lists from now on :-)
Literature: Anything by Kurt Vonnegut, Paul Auster, Robertson Davies, Neil Gaiman, Clive Barker to name a few. Also been know to dig into a fantasy series now and then.
Movies: Some film makers I like: David Fincher, Hal Hartley, Jean-Pierre Jeunet.
TV: The West Wing, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Rescue Me, The Shield , Sleeper Cell, House, Carnivale, Just shoot me... |
